Drum roll, pleeease... Breakthrough, actually TWO breakthroughs, on the same ride!

Perhaps not big to you, but (for me) I did two huge things today!

(1) At the beginning of the season, on my 1st ride outside, I grabbed my water bottle out of my holder on the front tube while riding. This was huge. It was the first time I had been able to take out my water bottle -- and put it back in the holder-- while riding. However, I still couldn't grab the one out of the holder on the back tube. UNTIL TODAY! Hurray! On long rides, I always needed to stop once I drank the 1st bottle. Even if I wasn't tired, I had to stop for two seconds to switch the bottles and put the empty one in the back and the full one in the front. This shouldn't be the case anymore! If I did it once, I can do it again! Woo-hoo!

(2) We had our bike session this morning and we did three big loops in Sharon, MA. I wanted to do one more loop, and also felt like I should do at least one more, given what's on the agenda one week from tomorrow. So, I rode a 4th loop by myself. No big deal? Yes, it was. You see, I am uncomfortable riding alone. So much so, I don't do it except on the Minuteman. And outside of a couple rides at the beginning of the season, I don't usually ride on the Minuteman bike path. Therefore, I basically don't ride alone. It is limiting, I know, and I really don't like that fact. I don't mind riding alone if I know I'm with a group (or even one other person) who is out there...somewhere...on the same course with me. But I was totally alone on the 4th loop. When I got back, I expected to see just my car left, and such was the case. Yay for getting out of my comfort zone!

Hmmm....what's next?

I agree. Those are huge break-throughs. I have the exact opposite problem - I don't like riding in a pack - the pressure is too much, and I don't enjoy my ride. Guess I am secretly an introvert deep down inside. :-)

Robin,
Just strolling through the Triathlon blogs and saw yours. I took a friend of mine on a bike ride with a group I ride with yesterday and she accomplished two new things on the same ride also. One was reaching for her bottle, actually drinking on the move, and putting it back. In addition to that she rode in traffic for the first time. Until yesterday, I had forgotten how important little things are. Good job!!

I have yet to ride in a group. I see them whiz buy me all the time. Like I'm a photographer standing there snapping shots for The Tour. My legs are moving but they have the speed.
