This weekend...

Saturday: Swim at the pool; 46 mi. bike (relatively flat course) with class
Sunday: 30 mi. bike w/ friend (some hills on this course)

Sat. -- no problems on the bike.
Sun. -- About 25 mi. in, experienced similar foot pain I had when I rode Timberman a week earlier. Not good.

I don't think it's my bike set up; I had a great fitting earlier this season and have had no troubles. I don't think it's the heat; it wasn't real hot this morning. I know it's not my shoes. I've had these shoes for a while (brand/model) and love them. Bought the same shoes this winter to fit my new pedals; they're great.

What am I left with? Maybe I am slacking on good technique when I pedal hills lately? Perhaps I unwittingly get lazy with my pedal stroke when I'm tired? I don't notice this, but I'll have to pay more attention to it next time I ride hills. It is the only thing I can think of. It didn't happen yesterday, but it did happen today...on the hilly course. I don't want it to happen Sunday. Or, for that matter, anymore :)

Oh crap, I hate hearing this.
What about insoles?
Not custom orthotics, just some good after market foot beds.
I have 'Your Soul' insoles in my bike shoes and I use superfeet (the blue ones) in my running shoes.

Great weekend workouts!

You mentioned that you get this pain when you’re riding, how about when you run? I try not to run over 400 miles on a pair of shoes. When I start to get close, I develop a pain in the center of my foot that lasts for days. I change my shoes and the pain goes away. Just an idea!

Thanks and thanks.

Benson: I tend to think I don't need orthodics, although good thought. Plus, personally, I think docs are quick to recommend orthodics when they are not really needed (although I'm sure sometimes they are necessary and helpful).

John: Good thought, as well. NO PAIN when I run. Just bike. And just biking hilly courses. And even that just recently when before no problems. Weird. (Plus, I keep track of my shoes' wear nowadays...now running in an 8 week old pair in good shape.)

Thanks you for reading and offering your recommendations--I truly appreciate it! :)

hi there, well i talked to my coach last night, and he said he would prefer me not biking the course this weekend... says it's pretty dangerous (yes it is on Route 1 practically the entire way), so i will just bike in newport :)
